Translation
The mercies of the Lord
I shall praise for ever and ever;
To generation and generation
My mouoth shall proclaim your truth.
For you have said: Mercy shall be built up
Forever in the heavens:
Your truth shall be prepared in them.

Misericordias Domini was written for Grace Lutheran Church in Hockessin, DE and premiered during the Advent season on December 7th, 2014. The text comes from Psalm 89 and has been set by several composers including Orlando di Lasso and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Although settings of this text are usually used during Advent, this setting is appropriate for services and performances throughout the year. This ancient text praises the never-ending mercies the Lord grants His people each and every day. Similarly, the musical themes and interwoven ostinatos reflect His eternal love for creation. These melodies continue through to the end of the piece and leave us with the haunting sound of the alto line fading away almost as if it continues to sing on without end.
