    By Eve Michael

With additional Latin text by Alexis Ward

We've stuck together through thick and thin

We may not be blood but we are family

Through times of trials and tragedy

I'm there for you and you're there for me

See the sunshine on all our faces

    We will be in harmony

Just look around and you will see

    We are a family.

We've lost a few along the way

    Some almost every day

In our hearts forever they'll stay

Nostra animas aeternum in harmonia. Nos non solum.

(Our souls will forever be in harmony. We are not alone.)

We remain together and strong. Listen to our song.

    Souls together, forever we'll be.

"The first time I listened to works by Alexis, I instantly wanted to collaborate and support her as a composer. Her music is some of the most beautiful and inspiring works that I have taught my students. When invited to conduct at Carnegie Hall, I contacted Alexis immediately to commission a work to premiere in our performance. To make it even more special for my students and I, she used a poem from one of my students. As always, the music was incredible, the performance was magical, and the experience my students received was life-changing. Alexis has the ability to beautifully depict musical lines and text painting. Her harmonic language is appropriately challenging, and my students have always loved learning any of Alexis's pieces. "Nos non solum" went above and beyond anything I've heard Alexis compose. The poem expresses what we have all been through during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and the music enhances the poem from beginning to end. I highly recommend "Nos non solum" to anyone with an intermediate to advanced SATB ensemble. I highly recommend the addition of the strings."
