who knows

who knows

"who knows" is a simple setting of the stunning poetry of e. e. cummings. This piece respresents the love between two indiviuals and captures the electric energy of that love story as it voyages off into the unknown.

Voicing: SSAATB, a cappella with soprano solo and tenor solo

Duration: 3:30

Commissioned by Chris McGinley in honor Kevin and Rebecca DeYoe on the day of their wedding, May 10th, 2014

  • Text

    By e. e. cummings

    who knows if the moon’s
    a balloon,coming out of a keen city
in the sky—filled with pretty people?
(and if you and i should

    get into it,if they
should take me and take you into their balloon.
    why then
we’d go up higher with all the pretty people

than houses and steeples and clouds:
    go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
    city which nobody’s ever visited,where

    Spring)and everyone’s
in love and flowers pick themselves
